The Experience
This is a half day guided tour of Dublin where we retrace the steps of those who fought in the 1916 Rising. We begin our tour at the original point of the volunteers on to the General Post Office in the City centre and along the banks of the river Liffey to the execution and resting place of the leadership.
Our guests will be collected from designated hotel sites or assemble at Liberty Hall. The tour will be by way of luxury coach, stopping off at the sites of interest on the way. Guests will be returned to the city centre or a designated hotel after the tour. There will be a comfort stop in the café vault of the Royal Hospital for light refreshments.
This tour is the brainchild of the Dublin 8 Community Initiative. All drivers and guides are from the locality. Locals will also meet our guests to add a personal and historical perspective to the total experience.
An Experience Pack will also be provided to each guest, which includes:
- 1916 Rising CD with the story of the rising exclusively produced for the tour
- Scroll of the Proclamation
- Songs of the rising by local man Joe Mc Gowan and recorded on location
- Fee for admission to Kilmainham Jail and tour included in package
This tour focuses on the Easter rising. However the Dublin 7 and 8 areas are home to other sites of outstanding historical interest. For those guests who wish to explore further we will provide every information and assistance using our unique knowledge of the locals and the locality. Sites for further exploration include;
- Goldenbridge Cemetery
- St James Hospital, site of the South Dublin Union
- St Catherine’s Church, site of the execution of Robert Emmet
- The Richmond Bar, Emmet Road, Garrison Bar of the former Richmond Barracks
